PrintI know that dreams do come true because everyday I get to help women live their dreams as I live mine. I remember when I was going through some very challenging times around 1993, when I picked up a book entitled “Live Your Dreams” by Les Brown. The book was filled with so many powerful nuggets. After I was done reading the book, I made some real tough decisions about my life, my business and my destiny.

There was one quote from the book that stuck with me…

“Do not go where the path may lead, but go where there is no path, and leave a trail.” This stuck in my soul like super glue.
At that time, I was the only African American in my entire state to fully own and operate a full service model and talent agency. But what I read in that book burned in my belly and created in a fire that wouldn’t die.
I got serious and I wanted to do something that had never been done before in my city. Within one year, I had produced one of the largest international talent showcases to ever be staged in SC and because it was so successful, I was hired to become the official Southeastern scout for the hit television show, “Ed McMahan’s Star Search.” I also began producing shows in NYC and Los Angeles, traveling and working with some of the largest entertainment names in the show business. I became a trailblazer in my state.

In 2007, I made a decision to closed the doors to my 23 year old business because I was starting to sense something new trying to emerge within me. In 2007, I launched The Love Experience Women’s Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC and The Love Story Women’s Circle in 2009. During that time the topic of “LOVE” was not something that anyone would want to build a business around. Even one of my business coaches told me that I would not be successful because it was such a “soft topic.” But again, I remembered Les saying “Don’t go where the path may lead, but go where there is no path and leave a trail.” I also was beginning to teach a lot on Fatherless Daughters and no one really wanted to talk about it. Especially fatherless daughters because many of the women carried shame around this topic. Now, what do you know…Loving Yourself is one of the most popular teachings now and Oprah, Iyanla and TD Jakes are bringing the topic of Fatherless to a global platform! And my phones and emails are going through the roof!

Over the years, I read everything by Les Brown, ordered his tapes/CDs, watched him on television because he inspired me and kept me moving. He was my “friend in my head.”

I remember one day having an idea to bring Les Brown to my city and have him do a workshop. So I had my secretary get the details. My heart dropped when she came into my office and told me the rate to book him to speak was $30,000. This was in the early 90’s. I remember saying to her, “what is he going to teach us for $30,000?” Lol, I was so green and limited in my thinking back then.

Fast forward two weeks ago when I received a phone call from the man who introduced himself to me by saying…“This is Les Brown, Mamie Brown’s baby boy.”  And the rest as they say is history.
