I know that millions of people worldwide have been touched by the tragedy in Connecticut. I was brought to tears and have been since these senseless murders took place. My heart goes out to the community, the parents and families of those who lost their loved ones.
While we all are feeling the pain of these horrible things that are happening all around us, I wonder how will we respond to this pain? Yes, we are touched. Of course, we are hurting and grieving. Millions have sat and watched the aftermath of these massacres on the news and there’s much being shared on Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets. People are even creating beautiful pictures, writing poetry and all sorts of things to show their compassion for what has happened.
But will you go on with your life as normal as the holidays approach? Will the distance of time cause you to forget or slightly remember the pain? Just like Columbine, Colorado Movie Murder, Virginia Tech massacre or Oregon’s Mall Murders discussion have all seemed to cease. Surely those who have been directly impacted haven’t forgotten.
But here’s the big secret…”We all have been directly impacted by these kinds of things happening within our midst.” Your pain is my pain. Your problems are my problems. As a nation, as tribe of people, we all share this space on the planet. This not a black thing, a white thing…this is a human thing. At our deepest levels we are all connected. The parents of Sandy Hook Elementary School lost their babies. But at our deepest level, so did all of us.
We can no longer turn a deaf ear to what is going on around us. Of course we can all pray and even send donations. But there is so much more that we can all do.
We all hope for a better and brighter future. But hope is not an action word. As women, we know how to take action and we know how to create change. Earlier this year, the politicians were trying to legislate our wombs and now our babies are being murdered by evil. Will we stand by in silence? I say to you, “no more.”
Never in recorded human history has the fate of the next generation rested on the current generation. We have a heavy duty, a calling, a pulling to midwife a better world. It’s urgent. You can no longer go back to life as usual. Because life as we once knew it, no longer exist. But there’s hope and there are some things that we can do right now.
I believe there are three things we can do to begin to make a difference:
1. Live Longer by Lending a Helping Hand
Did you know that people who volunteer for selfless reasons, such as helping others, live longer than those who don’t lend a helping hand, a new study shows. Many of us do great things during the holidays, but when January rolls around, we go back to our normal lives. Sure you have your own problems and challenges and perhaps you feel as if there’s not time for anything else. You will always have challenges in life. It’s set up that way to promote growth and expansion. But, I want to encourage you reach out and make volunteering a part of your life in 2013. And in some magical way, you will begin to see your challenges decrease and your happiness increase.
Marianne Williamson said, “People on a spiritual path – personal growth, spiritual practice, recovery, yoga and so forth – are the last people who should be sitting out the great social and political questions of our day. And there’s an important reason for this: people on such journeys are adepts at change. They know that the mechanics of the heart and mind are the fundamental drivers of transformation. This doesn’t just apply to one person, but to masses as well; if you know what makes an individual life change then you know what makes a nation change, because a nation is simply a large group of individuals.”
2. Become the Change
You’ve heard the saying that you’ve got to become the change you want to see. What are you doing to grow and expand your life onto new levels? Are you investing your time, energy and money into up leveling your thinking, your mindset and your ways of being? Have you broken through those stuck places in your life? It’s time to make that shift if you really want to be the change you want to see.
It sounds so cliche at times when I hear people say, “I want to be the change, I want to see.” And yet, when I ask what they are doing to actualize this in their lives, I hear very little responses. If we are going to become the change we want to see, we must seek out help. Just reading books, watching free online videos and going to free events is simply not enough. You’ve got to invest in your own growth. Money in and of itself is worthless. But when you use the energy of money as a means to activate the Law of Fair Exchange” in your life, you will begin to see significant increase in your life. Stop looking for freebies and invest in your own personal growth. By doing so, you are saying that you have value and that you are willing to take a huge step towards changing your life. You’re saying, “I’m ready to breakthrough my stuck places, to change my belief systems, to remove the barriers that have been hindering my progress.” You cannot do this for yourself, you need help with this kind of transformation. I often say that you cannot give from an empty cup. You can’t even give from a full cup because that one belongs to you. We can only give to others out of our overflow.
I am so grateful to the women who are apart of our Master Class. They see this philosophy and understand it. As we journey together to learn the universal principles that will up level our lives and cause us to shift and grow in ways that we’ve never before, we are also standing with each other to launch real meaningful projects that will make a difference in the world. In a nutshell, we are becoming the change and we are also creating the change. Albert Einstein said we would not solve the problems of the world at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them. It’ time to change your thinking…that’s how you become the change. Why don’t you join us?
3. Take the Vow to Love
Only love will conquer hate. Many of you will read this statement and question it. But history has proven it and studies have proven that the power of LOVE can restore a nation. But it all starts with us loving ourselves first. The answer to our life’s struggles and issues is loving ourselves from a true and authentic place. We start solving the world’s problem by loving ourselves on a personal level. It’s not only an important idea to consider but it’s urgent! For the world’s good, we must start loving ourselves and seeing our worth. It’s the only way we are going to have healthy relationships, heal the family breakdown or be a creative contributor to the world. It’s the only way we are going to stop the violence, stop injustice, poverty and even things like sickness and global meltdown. When we start loving ourselves, we stop hurting each other and that’s what true balance is ultimately about. About bringing a healing to ourselves individually and to our fellow man collectively. We cannot continue to self reject and self injure and not suffer collectively. This is an invitation for you to see how important it is that you self love and how important it is for the greater good. “Take the Vow to Love.”
My hope and intention is that you will read this article and become inspired, motivated or even enraged to take action. Whatever it takes to get you moving in the right direction is what I desire. The moment we stop telling each other the truth, the moment we stand by and remain silent is the moment we cease to exist. Now that you know, you can’t pretend that you don’t.
Remember, live authentically, laugh everyday and embrace love as a lifestyle.
