While the world mourns an NBA legend and his daughter Gianna, it’s important to know that we also mourn the death of seven others. As we listened and watched all of the news reports come in on Sunday, we heard so much about Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna as they identified all of the persons. And I realize Kobe’s super stardom is what led the news cycle. Yet, it appeared that we forgot about the others and their importance is being drowned out by Kobe’s super stardom.
This simply isn’t true. And I believe it isn’t true for all of us. We’re not that shallow. We want the families of John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester, Ara Zobayan ,Christina Mauser and yes, Kobe and Gianna Bryant, to know that we mourn with you all. Our hearts go out to you and we send you our love, prayers and support.
I believe I can speak for millions of us around the world who understand the value of every life in that crash, celebrity or not. As I went about my day today, there was talk about impeachment, about the stock market being down, and so much other stuff that simply didn’t seem to matter because all I could think about was this horrible tragedy and the families who are now suffering and hurting.
This tragedy hurts and I am sure it will hurt for a long time. There will be tributes, funerals, and ceremonies. And in the midst all of this, let us not forget that children lost parents, spouses lost spouses and parents lost their children.
In the midst of this horrible time, I did witness for a brief moment, the world come together to mourn. I saw it so much on social media. I saw a unity, a common love and concern for these families. Let us remember how powerful we are when we come together in love and compassion.
Now, as we move towards finding a way to heal…let us heal together. And while it may appear that we forgot the others…truth is, we didn’t forget that there were nine lives lost on a January morning in California. Our love and prayers are with you all. God help us all remember to love!
